This has calmed our terrier mix down about 50% in the car and has enabled him to calmly deal with the noise of fireworks. Actual thunder has never bothered him but he’s naturally a lively little guy, so anything non-drug we can use to calm him down a bit is wonderful. We’re still working on his skitterishness around children…especially ones running and screaming while they’re playing and he’s walking past them on a leash. He’s a rescue dog who was VERY abused by loutish men and ghastly, cruel children, so this is a continuing effort on our part to find him some peace around children. The coat seems to be helping in that area. He gets excited when he sees us getting his coat out…he almost seems proud of it. Thank you Temple Grandin for your BRILLIANT insight!

Dog Separation Anxiety Help with Thundershirt

I wanted to share with you my favorite (and only) piece of clothing that helps with my separation anxiety and other kinds of things that make me nervous like new people or dogs. It’s called the Thundershirt. The people who made this shirt say that it helps dogs with fear of thunder and fireworks, traveling anxiety, crate training, reactivity (I think that’s like when I pull and bark at other dogs), and of course separation anxiety. They also say that it helps 85% of all dogs that wear one! I guess the constant gentle pressure calms me down and makes me feel less anxious.
