Six Symptoms of Separation Anxiety in Dogs

The physical signs of anxiety are excessive panting, drooling, peeing, barking, whining.  Some dogs refuse to eat or become withdrawn (not Max).  Usually, these behaviors occur every time the dog is left alone but not in all cases.  Sometimes the anxiety only happens on the second departure of a day or only on work day departures. In more extreme cases, the dogs become destructive and can hurt themselves.  Perhaps I can find pictures or what a dog can do to drywall and door trim.  More on Max’s Houdini tricks later, too.  The important thing is that separation anxiety can be treated.  It takes a great deal of preserverence and patience, but the anxiety can be reduced.  I’m happy to report that I can now leave Max home without worrying about the house being torn apart in a state of panic.  I might find garbage strewn about or a bread wrapper minus one brand new loaf of bread, but I don’t come home to destruction and insanity anymore.  Life really does get better!
